2016-2017 Class Expectations
Courteous and respectful behavior is expected in the classroom at all times.
Students must be prepared at all times. This includes having your own materials, textbooks, assignments, novels, etc. Students will be ready when class begins.
Grade Point Average
All subjects will be counted towards the student’s Grade Point Average (GPA). Subjects will be weighted on the following scale:
Religion, Math, History, Language Arts, Grammar, Science and
Vocabulary will have a weight of 4.0.
Physical Education, Computers, Spanish, and Art will have a
weight of 1.0
Honor’s System
The GPA for Honors will be the following:
4.0: High Honors
3.99 – 3.50: First Honors
3.49 – 3.0: Second Honors
Conduct and Effort Grades
Behavior and attitude are considered when computing your conduct
grade. Effort reflects class work, preparation, and
participation. The final Conduct and Effort Grades reflect
an average of grades being given by each of your teachers.
Each student begins the trimester with an “A” in Conduct and Effort. Your behavior and attitude will determine your final grades.
Citizenship Awards will be given each trimester for combined Conduct and Effort grades equaling a 3.5 or higher GPA.
Discipline Plan
A positive management system, where rewards are distributed, will
be in effect throughout the school year. In the event of
any disruptions in the classroom, the problem will be discussed
with the student. If necessary, recess detention will be
served. If you receive four detentions in one trimester,
the fourth detention will be served on the following Tuesday or
Thursday before school at 7:15. Miss Kochis, and your parents
will be notified. All subsequent detentions that trimester will
be served at that time. If no appropriate changes are evident,
the school administration will discuss the problem with the
student. Further disciplinary action by the administration
is probable if the problem gets to this point.
Classroom Procedures
- First and last names, date of the assignment, subject, and the title of the assignment must be on the first line in the upper right-hand corner for all assignments. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in loss of points.
- As stated in the St. Ignatius Handbook, the uniform policy will be strictly enforced. Shirts must be tucked in at all times except during P.E. and recess. Boys 3rd-8th must wear a belt. Skirts and shorts should be no more than one inch above the knee and loose fitting.
- All assignments, unless otherwise stated, must be completed on loose-leaf college ruled paper. Never use paper torn from a spiral notebook or torn from a binder. Exception: Math is to be done in your 5-subject spiral notebook. Work must be neat to be accepted. Take time to check your work before it is turned in. Your work reflects you!
- If you are unable to print your documents at home, then you must come to school with it on a flash drive and make an attempt to print it before school.
Homework Policy
Homework assignments will be posted daily. All assignments are due on time and must be completed prior to your arrival at school. Late work will not receive full credit unless you have an excused absence. If an assignment is late or incomplete, you will receive detention. To avoid further detentions, you must bring the assignment to school the next day.
Absences
Daily homework will be recorded in the homework binder.
It is your responsibility to look at this binder and talk to me
about a plan for completing missing work.
Planned Absences: Assignments will not be given ahead of time. It
is your responsibility to get homework and classwork while you
are away. All assignments are due and you will be expected
to take any missed tests the day you return. You may be
required to make up tests before or after school.
Cheating
If you are caught cheating you will receive a zero for the
assignment and a parent signature will be required. Copying
someone’s homework is cheating and BOTH the originator and the
copier will receive the consequence indicated above.
Extra Credit
The only extra credit opportunities each trimester will be
teacher generated most often in the form of extra quiz and test
questions on selected assessments throughout each trimester.
Cell Phones
Cell phones are not to be used on campus. All cell phones
must remain in the student’s backpack. If a cell phone is
heard or used, it will be confiscated and kept in the school
office until a parent retrieves it.
Finally, if at any time you are confused and/or uncertain about anything, you are encouraged to ask for assistance. Be proactive and responsible. There are no “dumb questions.” Please seek help when needed. Do not wait until the problem has become too large. If you wish for after-school help, please contact the appropriate teacher and set up a time. We are all here to help. We expect that you will assume the responsibility to make your education the best it can be. We all look forward to a fantastic year!
