St. Ignatius Parent Club Presents A Concussion Information Night
Monday, May 13th from 6-7 pm, Garden Room

Did you know…?
• 68% of children have at least one concussion by the time they enter high school
• An athlete who sustains a concussion is 4-6 times more likely to sustain a second concussion.
• Each year, an estimated 3.8 million concussions related to sports/recreation occur in the United States. (Source: Center for Disease Control)
• From 1997 to 2007, ER visits for concussions doubled for ages 8 -13 and tripled for ages 14 – 19.
• 10% of all contact sport athletes sustain concussions yearly.
• 41% of athletes that suffered a concussion report back to sports too soon.

Please join us for a presentation and discussion regarding concussion in school age children.  Learn about what to look for and do if an injury occurs and what can be done to prevent/minimize the consequences.  Educational materials will be provided for parents who attend, as well as for our school teachers, coaches, and students.

Lori Madden is our presenter. Lori is a parent at St. Ignatius School and is a nationally recognized expert in neuroscience nursing and neurotrauma. She has worked in neurotrauma for over 20 years.  She has spoken locally, nationally, and internationally and is a published author.  Lori is a nurse practitioner in neurological surgery at UC Davis and a PhD candidate in the UC Davis Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing where she is investigating outcomes after traumatic brain injury in her dissertation work.
