Arrupe Project

“Only by being a man or woman for others does one become fully human.” - Pedro Arrupe, S.J.

Based upon Catholic Social Teaching, Scripture (Matthew 25), and the Corporal Works of Mercy, the goal of the Arrupe Project is to empower students to become men and women for others through faith, service, and justice as they demonstrate our school’s Student Learning Expectation of Being Committed to Doing Justice.

Eighth-grade students at St. Ignatius Parish School participate in the Arrupe Project, which challenges them to research issues that affect their community. Through this project, students “pay it forward” by becoming personally engaged in their response to social injustice.  Students discern and help support causes that are most meaningful to them.

Students begin their project by earning $10, which is then matched by the school.  These start-up funds are used by the students in their fundraising efforts, which range from selling homemade items at the Arrupe Marketplace at Open House to creative student-organized fundraisers.  As their Arrupe Projects conclude, students either personally deliver the funds raised or the items needed by the organization.

A final presentation of the project is conducted at the Arrupe Expo. All students and school families are invited to learn about the various organizations and how the student raised funds.

In 2023 – 39 students supported 33 different non-profit organizations and raised over $20,000.
