Lower grades Science is all about hands on experiences. Each of the grades have a Life Science, Earth Science, Physical Science, and Engineering unit. Labs are conducted at least once a week in each of the classes. Students work in small groups for most Science activities. Student Presentations and field trips are also a components of our Science program.
Fields Trips: 4th grade Wednesday, April 11th 9 am to 12 pm Electron Flow Program at Roseville Utility Exploration Center.
1st grade:Life Sciences Unit-What plants need; Plants everywhere; Parts of plants ; Animals everywhere; What animals need; How animals get food ; Land habitats; Water habitats; Plants and animals need each other ; Food chains. Earth Sciences Unit-Describe weather; The warmth of the sun; Measure weather; Winter; Spring; Summer; Fall. Physical Sciences Unit-Describing matter; Solids; Liquids; Gases; Heating Matter; Cooling matter; Mixing matter. Engineering.
For 2nd – 4th grade students, presentations to their classmates and occasionally family members is an integral part of our Science curriculum. Students will conduct individual and group presentations throughout the year on a variety of topics.
Parents, please plan on joining us at least twice this year for your student’s presentations. I will send you an email and of course inform your student that you will be invited in to the classroom to view their presentation.
Anyone who would like to volunteer their time at school, on a field trip, or any activity that involves our students, MUST complete an on line course provided by Catholic Mutual Group.
THIS TRAINING IS MANDATED AND A CERTIFICATE MUST BE PRESENTED TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE BEFORE YOU MAY VOLUNTEER TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY SCHOOL EVENTS/FUNCTIONS WHERE CHILDREN ARE PRESENT. This training must be renewed EVERY 3 years.
